The Gabonese president announced a broad government reshuffle, including the appointment of a new Deputy Head of Government and the publication of the full list of the new cabinet, in a move reflecting efforts to reorganize the executive branch and consolidate the features of a new political phase in the country.
Under the reshuffle, Hermann Immongault, formerly Minister of the Interior, was appointed Deputy Head of Government. According to the Constitution of the Fifth Republic, the Deputy Head of Government is responsible for coordinating government action and ensuring policy coherence. The post was introduced as a replacement for the prime minister’s position, granting Immongault a central role in managing government affairs and overseeing the implementation of public programs.
In the same context, Hugues Alexandre Barro Chambrier was appointed Vice President of the Republic, as part of a broader reconfiguration of the executive leadership structure and an effort to strengthen decision-making mechanisms within the state.
Following the issuance of the appointment decree, the full list of the new government was released, confirming the completion of a ministerial team expected to shoulder the responsibilities of the coming phase, particularly in rebuilding institutions, improving government performance, and addressing economic and social challenges.
This reshuffle comes amid broader political and institutional reforms in Gabon following the adoption of the Constitution of the Fifth Republic. The new leadership is seeking to enhance political stability, modernize governance structures, and establish clearer frameworks for the distribution of powers within the executive branch, in line with the aspirations of the transitional phase and with the aim of restoring public confidence in state institutions.
